Our names are Coach Hennessy and Coach McEvoy, and we are very optimistic about the number of boys who are interested representing our school on the soccer team. We both truly love playing and coaching soccer, and we consider coaching to be one of the best parts of our jobs as educators. Coach Hennessey teaches physical education at Community Park, and Coach McEvoy teaches English at JWMS.
Weather permitting, will be conducting tryouts from the second week of school until two school days before the first game. In order to try out, prospective players must complete the following requirements:
Have all physical paperwork checked and cleared by the school nurse;
Come to tryouts with cleats and shin guards (please bring a water bottle too).*
Players will all be evaluated on the following skills and abilities:
Running (Acceleration & Endurance)
Although our preference would be to keep everyone, before players go home at the end of the final tryout, we will personally and privately inform them whether or not they have made the team. We will try to keep as many players as we can for the two teams, but the more people we keep, the more difficult it is for us to be competitive in games while ensuring playing time.
Before coming to tryouts, players should please be absolutely sure that they have submitted all the necessary paperwork, and that they have cleats, shin guards and soccer socks that cover their shin guards. Tryouts end at 4:30, so athletes should please arrange a way to get home before that time. We appreciate all of the interest in the program, and we are really looking forward to building skills and character on the field.
*All athletes will be given a tryout once they have been cleared by the nurse and are properly equipped. If a player is in need of equipment or a physical, please contact coaches McEvoy & Hennessy at the e-mail addresses listed above before tryouts begin.
