The middle school swim team will have tryouts this year. In order to participate on the team, swimmers must be able to complete two laps (50 yards) without stopping, of freestyle in under one minute. In addition, swimmers must be able to tread water for one minute without stopping. This is for safety purposes, and this is a competitive swim team, not swim lessons.
A little information about the coaches:
Chandler Hubert is a physical education teacher at Princeton Middle School. She swam competitively all her life and swam and dove for The College of New Jersey’s Women’s Varsity Swim and Dive Team. This is her third year coaching the middle school swim team but has five years of summer swim coaching experience for Hopewell Valley Tennis and Swim Center. In addition, she is a beach lifeguard in the summer.
Joe Knox is a physical education teacher at Littlebrook Elementary School in the Princeton District. He has swum competitively all his life and now coaches. Coach Knox has coached swimming in the district for the past 17 years. He started with 4 years at the varsity level in the high school before moving to the middle school swim team.
Practices will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 am Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, unless the school is closed or there is a delayed opening. Swim meets will be after school with warm-up starting at 3:15 and meets running from 4:00 to 5:15. We will have three swim meets this year; all our meets are home. The following link has the live swim schedule: Live Swim Schedule
Club swimmers are only required to attend four practices to be eligible for swim meets. We understand club swim is demanding; if swimmers would like to attend more than four practices they are more than welcome to!
Students must come to school dressed for practice in their swimsuits and enter through the main school entrance. Students will not have locker room access before practice. After practice students will have about thirty minutes to use the locker rooms to shower and change into their school clothes as well as eat a snack/breakfast before class.
Each swimmer will need to bring the following items to practice everyday:
Wear their swimsuits
Goggles
Cap (encouraged but not required- we have extras if needed)
Towel
Shower supplies if desired
Water
Clothes for school
Snack/breakfast
Thank you for your support and we look forward to a fun season!
