Girls Lacrosse
The Girl's Lacrosse team had a successful season this year. Starting in March, the team was compromised of an A team, B team and a practice team. We engaged the girls on the fundamentals of the game and the team practiced diligently throughout the spring and all improved throughout the course of the season. Over 40 students participated on the team. The A team finished 8-4 and there was great teamwork and spirit throughout the course of the season. The leading goal scorers were Clare Barlag, Emmi Barker, Taylor Davidson, Lyla Shaver and Tess Boyle. Renny Donaldson, Anna Krysotfik, Lulu Bahr, Sevanne Knoch, Milena Majeski, Cece Schoenberg, Tenleigh Barker, Sonya Allee, Lyla Shaver, Sophie Kaswan, Liora Spiegel, and goalie, Juliana Funiciello all grew throughout the year and helped support the winning season. The B team showed tremendous heart in their two games and the season wrapped up in May with a fun end of the season celebration. Congratulations on a great season!
Track and Field
The Boys' & Girls' Track & Field Teams combined, had their most successful season yet, finishing with a combined record of 25-0. Our program consisted of over 230 athletes this spring, our largest team ever, and 7 all-time Princeton Middle School Records were broken.
Oliver Spagnoli, Sullivan Spagnoli, Fletcher Harrison, and Simon Danos Peltekian broke the 4x100m Boys' Relay Record with a time of 48.2 seconds. Eddie Del Cid broke the Boys' Discus Record with a distance of 104 feet, 3 inches. Sullivan Spagnoli broke the Boys' High Jump Record with a height of 5 feet 5 inches. Sullivan Spagnoli broke the Boys' Long Jump Record of 18 feet 9 inches. Simone Henriques broke the 200m Girls' Record running 25.7 seconds. Olivia Allison broke the Girls' Discus Record throwing 68 feet, 2.5 inches, and Olivia Allison broke the Girls' Shotput Record throwing 34 feet, 9 inches.
Across the board, our Track & Field Program was the strongest it's ever been across all 11 of the events, and every athlete was given the opportunity to participate in at least a couple meets. We saw tremendous growth from all athletes. We are looking forward to our seasons to come!
Boys Lacrosse
The boys lacrosse team had a successful season. The A team finished 6-4-1 and the B team was .500. Some of the more notable accomplishments included beating both Timberlane and Millstone, two very difficult opponents. The team also looked like it could play with anyone when at full strength, including Hun and Grover, the best teams we played all year. If not for injuries and absences, the team probably would have finished 8-2-1. The team practiced good sportsmanship when clearly better than an opponent, emptying the bench and stipulating that several things had to happen before shooting, for example.
It was encouraging to see so many players come out, and especially the number of eighth graders. There are a lot of returning seventh graders and a handful of very talented sixth graders, so the future is bright.
Baseball
The baseball season started with a full week of tryouts, each individual grade had their chance to impress Coach Dan and I. Having so many students participating in the tryout session was a very positive progression from years prior. With the team not performing the way many students from the year prior expected, we went into the season with a lot to prove.
Bolstered by four promising 6th graders to add to are already deep 8th grade core and of course sprinkling in our three 7th graders we were confident we had what we needed to improve. The first few games showed us that we only were beating ourselves with small mistakes. The players quickly understood they could play with anyone and a highlight of our season was beating previously undefeated Pond Road Middle School. We finished the season 5-9. But what truly matters are the experiences garnered, shared by the our PMS student athletes.
Softball
The PMS softball team finished the season at 9-4. Our core of eighth grade players, exemplified true leadership both on and off the field. They not just played with a high level of tenacity and physical toughness on the field, but they took the time to connect with all the younger players off the field, and always, unprompted, found time to work with them individually, to ensure that everyone became better players this season and felt part of the team. We couldn’t be more grateful for the fun that we had together and the foundation they have laid for the returning players, as they leave PMS and head onto high school. They are a very special group of girls: Eko Brown, Aarna Vachhrajani, Grace Prete, Caroline Avalos, Alex Brown, Anna Gniewosz, and Charlotte Bertoncini. We have no doubt that based on their high level of play this season, that seventh graders Mia Sartor-Abrams, Vivian Lutkowski, and Julia Foytlin are ready pick-up right where this year’s eighth graders left off. And the skill development and growth of sixth graders Adeline Cole, Alessandra Estrada Rosario, Zeva Hoffman, Kaya Krolik, Haley Oakman, and Anne Whitley over the course of the season, along with the positive energy and enthusiasm that they bring to everything they do, will continue to help us build a strong softball program here at PMS.
